I am trying to figure out the best way to deter torrent traffic on some wireless networks. We are running Colubris MSC-3200?s with recent firmware. The easiest option seems to be to simply set bandwidth limits for everyone. However I don?t believe this will actually solve the problem of torrents slowing down the network.
The new alpha release and associated commands for the firewall have worked well in my testing, blocking uTorrent, Facebook, Skype etc. On the DPI function, you can also 'see' which IP address is running torrent software which might actually be more beneficial. Bit Torrent starts at Port 6881 to Port 6999. You would need to block that entire port range to stop all access thru bit torrent clients This link shows how to Open specific ports, but you would Block them from the same menu. Just input the Port Range and click on DENY.
Netgear Router Ports Not Working
Blocking ports does not seem to be a viable option as most clients can now change ports very easily.
In general the routers do not have QoS ? which is what I was hoping for. Taking back sunday tell all your friends demo zip. That way we could set web traffic as priority and tunnel all torrent traffic to the super slow zone leaving web traffic untouched.
Setting up a physical program/box to manage this could be an option but it has to run on windows, be free and not have to be on location as we manage remotely.

Any ideas or anything to point me in the right direction?
